Professor Mukhopadyay is presently the Chairman of Paediatrics at Brighton & Sussex Medical School, Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital,U.K. He discovered a novel mechanism causing eczema and asthma and the role of this gene defect on a number of aspects of the development of allergy and asthma in children. He also discovered a gene change that substantially reduces the efficacy of the commonest asthma medicine, the 'blue inhaler', in children. His recent randomized controlled trial testing this hypothesis through the development of asthma treatments for children that are personalised according to genotype has generated further international interest. He has collaborated with Professor Meenu Singh at the PGIMER, Chandigarh for many years and jointly published the first systematic review in the field of cystic fibrosis, exploring the field of nebulised anti-pseudomonal antibiotic therapy.
